House Church?

House Church

What I've found is that when you make the move into a smaller more natural kind of gathering there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Rather than a "house church", we are seeking to create what I've heard described as a "relational church". As we grow in our relationship with each other and with God, we keep seeking answers to the question, "How can we best encourage each other to grow in love, faith and hope in Christ.

Actually, we really love meeting in the Jlodge coffee shop. It's not your typical coffee shop church since Jlodge is closed. But it's very, very relaxing and informal---very much like a home. We sing together, pray together, share about how God has been speaking into our lives during the week and we look into God's Word together; it's usually in some sort of story form. We don't have much of a format though. Sometimes an unbelieving friend shows up and the conversation takes on a very different direction. Actually all our "messages" are presented in a conversational way. Sometimes the conversation continues as we eat together and sometimes not. The most consistent thing is our love for God and our love for one another.

Eating together really helps us get out of the more formal mode that is often a habit brought in from previous church experiences. We celebrate God's presence with us and encourage each other in our walks of faith. We have fun together and occasionally we leave the confines of Jlodge and go out for a hike or to some other activity.

Our relational style church meetings are very warm and our fellowship is very sweet. But up to now, we've also been able to maintain a strong element of outreach and we are often inviting others---unbelievers to join us. When they come, they are lovingly welcomed by all and their thoughts and comments are sought out and honored throughout our conversations. God can easily speak to us through someone who is a not-yet believer!!

If you are in the area please stop in. We'd love to have you join us! Just send an email and we'll let you know the details of time and place!
